About Rad
My name is Radovan but English speaking people usually call me Rad. I was born in Slovakia and I am now in mid 30s. I work and live with my family near Birmingham in UK.
My daily job is with 3DTotal.com in Worcester, lovely medieval city in Midlands, and as an enthusiast LAMP developer I usually work over nights for various advertising companies and creative studios delivering bespoke applications or managing Linux servers or databases for them.
I have been working with Linux for some time. I started probably somewhere around 2000 when colleague of mine and room-mate brought home book about RedHat with distribution CD attached to it. At that time I have started to develop for web - and my first virtual or better to sat shared hosting was on Linux machine - which I didn't know anything about. So that book was important first step for me it helped me understand what operating system my host has been running and I loved it right from the first moment. I have had deep understanding of Windows operating systems at that time and been working with university Unix system, but this was in highly controlled environment.
On the other side Linux I could have installed on my pc at home - it was scary to create first Linux partitions as installation GUI's or any helpers weren't so graphically good as these days. Since then I mastered RedHat and stayed with them ever since, using preferably RHEL, Centos or Fedora distributions. Server side of Linux interested me right from the beginning, probably knowing already I will use it for my professional development and growth .
I remotely administer company / business servers running RHEL, Centos and Debian on corporate networks. For personal use and development I use desktop stations with Ubuntu and Fedora. And need not to say that in mixed environment Samba server does the job perfectly.
Despite mastering Linux in server deployment I started my professional career as web developer. Starting with coding from my childhood with Visual Basic, then moving to C and C++ my true love with programming started with PHP - ideal language for web development.
Shortly afterwards Perl / Python and for proper web applications one needs to master (X)HTML, jQuery (Or Javascript) and various underlying protocols which make work on web site efficient.
I have set up lucasoft.sk in 2001 right after graduation and since then acquired few more domains with same brand name including lucasoft.co.uk and lucasoft.eu domains. Behind the brand I often work as freelancer, sometimes cooperating with other developers. Quite a lot of my work focus on recoding after third party (or Open Source) mainly to implement new features and functionality to clients applications. As for graphics and design I usually implement design delivered by third parties or client designers although I am proficient in using industry standard tools - Photoshop and alikes.
